About this user guide
The Optimizely user guide is intended for editors, administrators, marketers and merchandisers, and contains detailed instructions, screenshots, tips and best practices to get the best use from the features of the Optimizely platform.
To become familiar with the Optimizely user guide, read the following carefully. You will learn how to go through the user guide, how to understand tips and warnings and where to find additional information, such as video tutorials and frequently asked questions.
Navigation
On the start page, click a tile to quickly access the corresponding Optimizely product or topic. There are several options for going through the user guide.
- Table of contents. Go through all topics and subtopics.
- Breadcrumb trail. On the top of each page, under You are here:, is the path of the current page. Click the name of a parent page to jump back.
- Page navigation. To page through the user guide, click Previous and Next in the upper menu bar.
- Mini table of contents. Pages with extensive content have their own table of contents on the upper right side. Click any topic to jump directly to the corresponding section.
Search
You can find the Search box in the top right corner on each page. To specify your search result:
- If word order matters, use quotation marks.
- Use the boolean operators and, or and not to reduce the number of hits.
- Use the search filter
. Select All Files or one of the main topics CMS, Commerce, B2B Commerce, PIM, Campaign, Personalization, Search & Navigation, or Add-ons.
If a glossary entry corresponds to a searched term, the definition is displayed on the top of the search results.
Search terms are highlighted in the result topics' preview. To remove highlights, click Remove Highlights in the upper menu bar.
Notes
Three types of notes are color marked throughout the user guide: tips, notes and warnings.
Green indicates tips that might show you an easier way to perform a task.
Yellow indicates important information that may affect your work and should not be missed.
Red indicates warnings. If these warnings are ignored, serious errors or problems may occur.
Images and screenshots
The Optimizely user guide uses images and screenshots to visually guide you through the features of the Optimizely platform. Due to different versions, continuous updates, and specific system permissions, images and screenshots may differ from the actual appearance.
To enlarge an image, click it. To display the image in its previous size, click the image again.
This functionality is not available for all images.
Drop-downs
Some topics contain additional information hidden in drop-downs, such as examples, videos, tables or code samples. Click the title to expand the drop-down.
By default, drop-downs are collapsed. To expand all drop-downs on a page, click Expand all in the upper menu bar.
Language versions
The Optimizely User Guide is available in two languages; English and German. You can switch between the language versions by clicking the language selector in the upper menu bar.
Feedback
Your feedback helps Optimizely to improve the information in this user guide. At the bottom of each topic, under Did you find this information helpful?, you can leave your feedback by clicking Yes or No. If you click No, you can specify your feedback by using one of the predefined answers. You can also click Email us to send an email with your feedback to [email protected].
Print and PDFs
You can print each topic by clicking Print in the upper menu bar. Note that you need to click Expand all to include drop-down content.
To browse and download the Optimizely user guide in PDF format, click the Print tile on the start page. The user guides are organized by product to reduce size. You can also find the PDF version of the user guide for each Optimizely product in the table of contents, whenever there is one available.
Video tutorials
Video tutorials provide additional information and instructions to get the most out of Optimizely. To watch a video tutorial, click the Videos tile on the start page and, on the next page, select the video you want to watch. You can stream and view video tutorials within your browser.
Glossary
The glossary is a list of specific terms and their definitions. To open the glossary, click Glossary at the bottom of the start page. If words defined in the glossary are used in topics, they appear as hyperlinks. To see the glossary definition of a word, hover over it.
FAQs
The FAQs section provides answers to frequently-asked questions by Optimizely users. To open the FAQs, click FAQs at the bottom of the start page.
